<p><em>I&#8217;m sick.  <strong>VERY </strong>sick.</em></p>
<p>
<p>And therefore we&#8217;ll have no video today!!  There&#8217;s NO WAY I&#8217;m putting myself on a video looking like THIS!<img alt='Don't Catch This Years' Seasonal Flu' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/seasonal-flu.jpg' align="right" width='200' height='234' style="border-style: none"/></p>

<p>And yes, it&#8217;s TRUE !  </p>
<p>
<p>This crazyily committed &#8220;health, nutrition and workout chick&#8221; who always brags how she never gets sick cuz she takes such good care of herself went ahead and GOT SICK.</p>
<p>
<p><em><strong>I got what was coming to me, though.</strong></em></p>
<p>
<p>I maintain that keeping up a healthy lifestyle with good, solid nutrition from whole, natural one-ingredient foods will go a long way to keeping you healthy, even when those nasty little seasonal germs are out preying on you.</p>
<p>
<p>So, how&#8217;d I wind up sick then, you ask?</p>
<p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve been keeping up here, you&#8217;ll remember that I&#8217;ve been working extremely hard these past few weeks, and was shooting some high end and complicated health videos for a client of mine a couple of weeks ago for a few days straight. </p>
<p>

<p>
<p>I was working ridiculously long hours during that shoot &#8230; and the only food being provided was chips and chocolate bars for snacks, and lunches were burgers and pizza.  </p>
<p>
<p><strong>YOIKS!</strong></p>
<p>
<p><em>Why didn&#8217;t I pack healthy fare to take with me, I was asked. </em></p>
<p>
<p><strong>Cuz the hours were long ENOUGH that I felt that sleep took priority over packing food for myself. </strong> </p>
<p>
<p>And I arrogantly let myself think that all my good health up til then would save me through a few days of eating nothing but crap.</p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>I was wrong.</em></strong></p>
<p>
<p>It was definitely my saving grace for keeping my weight under control overall, and for being able to pick up where I left off with my workouts after a few dictated days off.</p>
<p>
<p><em>But I compromised my immune system by feeding it nothing but crap.  So it had nothing in it&#8217;s arsenal to help keep me healthy and strong and resistant.</em></p>
<p>
<p>Now, this has nothing to do with eating TOO MUCH.  Cuz I didn&#8217;t really eat a ton of this stuff.  </p>
<p>
<p><em>But it&#8217;s ALL I ate &#8230; for several days straight. </em></p>
<p>
<p><strong>And I paid the price for it. </strong> </p>
<p>
<p>When that little seasonal germ came calling for my health, it easily found the chink in my armor and <strong><em>BLAMMO !!</em></strong> Before I knew it I was coughing up a lung and making everyone around me nuts (<em>and a little paranoid since they don&#8217;t want to catch what I caught</em>).</p>
<p>
<p>Our bodies were not designed to live healthy lives purely on overly salted, sugar-laden processed, pseudo-food with tons of preservatives added.  They&#8217;re designed to live on whole foods you can find in nature.  Not that you find in a plastic bag or foil &#8216;freshness&#8217; wrapper.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>And I&#8217;m an idiot to think I&#8217;d be immune just cuz I &#8216;usually&#8217; eat a healthy diet.  <em>SHAME ON ME!</em></strong></p>
<p>
<p>If I&#8217;d stayed the course and stuck with my usual healthy diet I have no doubt that I would have been in a MUCH better place to avoid this year&#8217;s flu like I do most years.</p>
<p>
<p>Rats.  That&#8217;s what being arrogant and letting myself slide will get me.  </p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>I&#8217;ll remember this.</em></strong>  </p>
<p>
<p><em>*cough cough*  DAMN!</em></p>
<p>
<p>And hey, while we&#8217;re on the subject of staying healthy and consuming naughty food, let&#8217;s remember that our annual temptation-filled &#8220;<strong>Season of Eating</strong>&#8221; is NOW UPON US!!!</p>

<p>And that&#8217;s a bit ironic since what&#8217;s managed to suck me into it&#8217;s vortex is that I&#8217;ve been working like mad prepping to produce and shoot some health videos for a client of mine.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>A video for them means no video for us. </strong> <img alt='Video Shoot' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/video-shoot.jpg' align="right" width='170' height='170' style="border-style: none"/></p>
<p>
<p>Drat.  Sorry.  I just ain&#8217;t got the time for it all.</p>
<p>
<p>But, today we&#8217;re finally shooting the video.  This is actually day 2 of 3 days of shooting.</p>
<p>
<p>We&#8217;re putting in some long days.  This is a complicated project.  </p>
<p>
<p><strong>And by &#8216;long days&#8217; I mean 14 &#8211; 16 hours each day.</strong></p>
<p>
<p><em>Yah.  Ouch.  I&#8217;m beat.  And there&#8217;s still another whole day to go.</em></p>
<p>
<p>For anyone who&#8217;s never been on set: once you&#8217;re there &#8230; you&#8217;re there.  No option to leave.  No &#8216;lunch break&#8217; to go work out.  You show up when you&#8217;re told and when you leave it&#8217;s cuz you&#8217;ve just finished your last shot and the work day has ended.</p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>Working out?  HAHAHAHAHA!!!  Right!!!  No hope in hell. </em> </strong></p>
<p>
<p>When you&#8217;re shooting you dismiss &#8216;life&#8217;.  Cuz you don&#8217;t have one.  You get the job done.  That&#8217;s it.  Showering is a luxury &#8230; if you can keep your eyes open long enough.  </p>
<p>
<p>Even *I*, the &#8220;<em>never miss a workout, don&#8217;t give me no excuses</em>&#8216; maniac that I am, even I don&#8217;t expect the average person to find time for a workout during these long hours.</p>
<p>
<p>And, cuz I&#8217;m just an &#8216;average&#8217; person, there&#8217;s no chance of ME working out under these conditions, either.</p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>And, now top THIS all off with the fact that this project is relatively low budget, which means there&#8217;s no traditional craft service (that usually has at least SOME healthy fare like vegetables, cheese and dips like hummus), and there&#8217;s no catered lunch from the gourmet lunch truck.</em></strong></p>
<p>
<p>Nope.  </p>
<p>
<p>We&#8217;ve got chips (doritos to be exact), leftover Hallowe&#8217;en candy bars, coffee with full fat cream and bakery goods to sustain us between meals.  Lunch is fast food hamburgers and dinner is pizza.<img alt='Junk Food' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/Junk-Food.jpg' align="right" width='189' height='154' style="border-style: none"/></p>
<p>
<p>Good lord.</p>
<p>
<p>Every time I eat something I&#8217;m hungry again in about 10 minutes.  Insulin spikes followed by insulin dips, followed by more eating cuz I&#8217;m hungry again.  Not exactly the way to keep one&#8217;s metabolism high and one&#8217;s calories low.  </p>
<p>
<p>Damn.</p>
<p>
<p>How about packing food to take with you, you say?  Sure, if you&#8217;re Superman  (in other words: ain&#8217;t gonna happen, sleep is way more important).</p>
<p>
<p><strong>It&#8217;s times like these that I&#8217;m grateful that I&#8217;m consistent with my workouts usually.</strong></p>
<p>
<p>Cuz when it&#8217;s all said and done, the fact is that 3 days down from my workouts and eating nothing but junk isn&#8217;t going to affect me long term.</p>
<p>
<p>Sure, an entire lifestyle like this would probably kill me early.  And I&#8217;m not exactly going to be my usual energetic self by the end of this shoot.</p>
<p>
<p>But since I usually stick with my exercise and good nutrition habits regularly, it&#8217;s not a big deal.  Hell, it was probably time for a longer break from the exercise anyway.  Recovery is important too.</p>
<p>
<p>But make no mistake:  I&#8217;m going to pay for all this crappy food I&#8217;m eating &#8230; not that I have a choice.  I don&#8217;t.  I am definitely going to gain fat.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>But!!</strong>  Because I&#8217;m consistent AND I&#8217;ve learned how to manipulate my weight through consistent practice with diet and exercise, I know it will only take me 3-4 days to get myself completely back on track.</p>
<p>
<p><em>So I&#8217;m not panicking. </em></p>
<p>
<p>If I was still in the dark about how it all worked, and I was trying to lose weight, I&#8217;d be through the roof with panic.</p>
<p>
<p>But I&#8217;ve learned.  </p>
<p>
<p>I know what it takes.</p>
<p>
<p>I&#8217;ll be fine.  I can relax through this project knowing I can handle this and get myself back on track in a hurry.</p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>Practice makes perfect, after all.</em></strong>  And I&#8217;ve been practicing for this eventuality for some time.</p>
<p>
<p>Alright.  Enough blogging for me.  Back to the shoot I go.</p>

<p>Woo Hoo, the weekend really couldn&#8217;t have come fast enough &#8230; am I right?</p>

<p><strong>Prepping for a weekend photoshoot is what I&#8217;ve been doing.</strong></p>

<p>I need to get as LEAN as possible for my shoot (<em>&#8216;camera adds 10lbs&#8217; and all that</em>) so I&#8217;ve been making concerted efforts to get the calories down and the fat off.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m doing a good job &#8230; I&#8217;m looking pretty ripped this weekend.</p>
<p>
<p>However, I have a BIG plan for next week.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>I&#8217;m planning on gaining some weight.  On purpose</strong>.  </p>
<p>
<p><em><strong>Why on EARTH would I do that</strong> after all the hard work I just did to take it all off?  </em></p>

<p>Remember a couple of months ago when I told you I&#8217;d been sent some supplements I&#8217;d never heard of before but that were supposedly great for athletic performance and injury reduction/prevention/healing? <img alt='Experiment' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/Experiment.jpg' align="right" width='130' height='210' style="border-style: none"/></p>

<p><em><strong>Green Lipped Mussel</strong> and <strong>Deer Velvet</strong> (and I was also sent some <strong>Grape Seed Extract</strong>, which I actually HAVE heard of but I threw that into the experiment too, just for fun).</em></p>

<p><em>Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, FRENCH FRIES on the lunchtime menus &#8230; in our school cafeterias?  <strong>FOR SHAME, school boards!!</strong></em></p>

<p>And WHY do they allow vending machines full of soda pop and junk food in our schools?</p>
<p>
<p>Kids don&#8217;t know the difference between healthy food and unhealthy food.  They just know what they see, and what tempts them.</p>
<p>
<p><em>Kids don&#8217;t always get the exercise they should either &#8230; it&#8217;s the era of the Xbox, internet and too many choices on TV.</em></p>
<p>
<p><strong>Our kids are more sedentary, less active, and eat more junk.  It&#8217;s a fact of today&#8217;s world.</strong></p>

<p>It doesn&#8217;t even matter sometimes if the parents are doing &#8216;all the right things&#8217;&#8230; </p>

<p><em>&#8230; kids aren&#8217;t hard-wired to resist temptation or really think so far ahead to worry about their mortality in their adulthood.</em></p>

<p>I just finished getting jiggy with my weight stack.  </p>

<p><strong><em>Always read the nutrition labels of your foods.</em>  It&#8217;s an eye opener, let me tell you.</strong></p>

<p><em>Otherwise, how do you know what the <strong>HELL </strong>you&#8217;re putting in your most precious commodity&#8230; your body??</em></p>

<p>So, the &#8220;unheard of&#8221; has happened.  </p>
<p>
<p><em>I find myself intrigued by a couple of supplements and have decided to try them out.</em></p>
<p>
<p>Anyone coming here for very long probably already knows I don&#8217;t particularly believe supplements are necessary if you&#8217;re eating a well-rounded, healthy and varied diet of primarily whole, natural, one-ingredient foods.</p>

<p>I believe you can get all the nutrition you NEED from your food, if you&#8217;re eating properly.</p>

<p>But after being offered a two month supply to &#8216;try out&#8217; I do find myself intrigued by these ones.  Mostly because all of them look to be from whole, natural sources and claim all sorts of wonderful health benefits&#8230;</p>

<p><strong><em>&#8230;but also cuz I&#8217;ve never even HEARD of two of them and dammit! &#8230; I&#8217;m CURIOUS!</em>  </strong></p>
