<p>On my foray into that commercial gym last week (<em>have you seen this:  <a href="http://www.girlwithnoname.com/2011/03/rant-why-are-some-people-such-idiots-in-the-gym/" target="blank">RANT: Why Are Some People Such IDIOTS In The Gym?</a></em>) I saw something else that made me stop and scratch my head in bewilderment.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>Listen, I know that some cardio is boring.</strong><img alt='Reading on a Treadmill' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/Reading-on-a-Treadmill.jpg' align="right" width='167' height='203' style="border-style: none"/></p>
<p>
<p><em>But so boring that you must read a magazine in the process?</em>  And therefore, let your workout suffer?</p>
<p>
<p>Can you really get your upper body working hard if you&#8217;re reading a magazine?</p>
<p>
<p>Um.  No.  You can&#8217;t.</p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>So why is this gym now SUPPLYING magazines for it&#8217;s members to read on the cardio equipment?</em></strong></p>
<p>
<p>And why are people still doing cardio they find <u>THAT</u> boring, when there are <u>SO MANY</u> other options available?<br />

<p><em>Keep your mind on your game.  </em></p>

<p>If you&#8217;re so bored you have to resort to reading magazines, it&#8217;s time to change it up and go do something more interesting.</p>

<p><em>Things that spring immediately to mind include:  <strong>HIIT (interval training), Weight Training SuperCircuits*, swimming, team sports like soccer</strong> &#8230;</em> </p>
<p>
<p>&#8230; heck, even playing with the dog is fun and interesting, and if you&#8217;re doing lots of running and chasing games you&#8217;re definitely getting a good cardio workout.</p>
<p>
<p>So, don&#8217;t tune out in the pages of some time-wasting gossip magazine.  </p>
<p>
<p><strong>Get the MOST out of your workout by keeping your head AND your upper body in the game.</strong></p>
<p>
<p>You&#8217;re there anyway, right?  You may as well get as much out of it as possible!!<br />

<p><strong>Oh No!  My Hillsprints hill has CLOSED!</strong></p>

<p>Yup, tragedy has befallen me.  The Parks Board decided to fence up my favourite hillsprint hill.  </p>
<p>
<p>No matter &#8230; I&#8217;ll still find a way to get my hillsprints done &#8230;<img alt='Hillsprints' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/Hillsprints.jpg' align="right" width='192' height='144' style="border-style: none"/></p>

<p>&#8230; but in the meantime, I&#8217;m kinda crushed and feeling out of sorts.  </p>

<p>Ok you guys, I have a pet peeve to share with you today.  </p>
<p>I keep reading the sales copy for fitness books who all say <em>&#8220;don&#8217;t do cardio&#8221;</em> and <em>&#8220;cardio is unnecessary&#8221;</em> and <em>&#8220;instead of cardio, lose weight with MY program, goodbye cardio&#8221;</em> and then once I&#8217;m reading the actual book turns out they are touting a form of cardio anyway.  </p>
<p>So I ask again: <strong>What the hell IS cardio?</strong>  And why does there seem to be so much confusion out there about it?  </p>
<p>Well, here&#8217;s your answer:</p>

<p>Hi everyone!  Special treat today.  You guys remember my favourite beach pal <a href="http://www.girlwithnoname.com/2009/07/rod-exposed/">Rod</a>, right? I managed to rope him into an impromptu interview on the beach today.  While we were chatting the other day, Rod reminded me that he used to be a triathlete!!!  So, of course I immediately wanted to pick his brain about it on camera!!  </p>
<p>One small note before you get watching:  Sorry for the low audio quality.  The camera wasn&#8217;t loving the small breeze so in my attempts to shelter the mic from the wind noise, I managed to block quite a bit of stuff that was taken from any distance from the camera.  Crank your speakers and you&#8217;ll probably have to lean in to hear what Rod has to say!!  Still worth it though.  I don&#8217;t know how anyone does Triathlons &#8230; I mean really, those babies are physically taxing in a HUGE way!!  If you&#8217;re fit enough to get through a Triathlon like Rod has (and win medals in the process like Rod ALSO has), you gotta know you&#8217;re in some kick-ass shape, right?</p>

<p>Hey everyone!!  Here we are&#8230;lovely Sunday.  It was supposed to be my day off working out today but I felt guilty and restless so decided to have some &#8216;active rest&#8217; and go for a walk on the always-mentioned seawall, the path where I do the majority of my cardio work (including endurance running with and without hills, HIIT like hillsprints or my love-to-hate it :30/:30 sprint/walks.  Hopefully you&#8217;ll get a better idea of where I am in the future when I talk about heading to the seawall to get a run or other cardio under my belt for the day, and the size of the hills I&#8217;m running when I&#8217;m talking about hillsprints and endurance running with hills.  Mostly its just for fun, to share with you guys&#8230; and see if I can get Tourism Vancouver to give me some kickbacks!! HAHAHA</p>

<p>Hey you guys&#8230; its a beautiful Thursday in Vancouver today. Wow!! Absolutely stunning!!  I did cardio today again, even though I did it yesterday.  Two days in a row of cardio.  Did I get enough recovery time?  Yes.  You only need one day of recovery for most cardio workouts, but you do need a day of rest between weight lifting workouts (unless you are working completely different muscle groups).  So no problem doing cardio two days in a row, but because most of my weight lifting routines work my full body (every muscle group), its not very often you&#8217;ll catch me doing a weight lifting routine two days in a row.  Recovery IS IMPORTANT.. probably AS important as the workout itself.</p>
<p>Also, another appeal for you guys who signed up to my old mailing list and probably never received a darn thing!!  You guys:  Please sign up again, I&#8217;m using a more reliable service now and would hate for you to be left out inadvertently.  If you haven&#8217;t signed up at all yet, please do so!! <p>Hey everyone.  Well, I came down with the stomach flu the other day.  It was supposed to be a cardio day and I had a good hard run planned.  Did I let illness stop me?  Maybe I should have&#8230;.</p>
