<p>Everyone knows that fast food, for the most part, really isn&#8217;t that good for you.  It&#8217;s usually very low in nutrients and very high in calories, trans fat and hydrogenated oils.</p>
<p>
<p>So, when you&#8217;re on the run and there&#8217;s no other option but to eat at a fast food joint, but you&#8217;re trying to stay healthy or stick to your weight loss plan, what do you do?  </p>

<p>Well, for starters most fast food places now have healthier options so you can stay on track better than you used to be able to.</p>
<p>
<p>For instance, that fish or chicken sandwich might seem like a healthier option than that burger, but wait a minute&#8230;  <strong>Is that fish or chicken patty ground and deep fried?</strong>  </p>
<p>
<p><em>Or is it grilled?  </em></p>
<p>
<p>If it&#8217;s a deep fried version then it more than likely has more calories and &#8216;bad fats&#8217; in it than the burger option.  </p>
<p>
<p>However, if the chicken or fish is grilled (and skinless) you&#8217;ll be doing the right thing.  Order up, it&#8217;s a good option!  </p>
<p>
<p><em>Make it even healthier by removing the top half of the bun before eating it.  Less refined flour in your meal equals less empty calories to sabotage your health or weight loss goals.</em></p>

<p>Or, if you can get a grilled chicken or fish wrap instead of a sandwich (try for a whole wheat wrap, instead of a white flour version) you&#8217;ll probably wind up with a meal that&#8217;s mostly veggies and some lean meat, and not much bread.  Right on!</p>
<p>
<p>If you MUST have that beef burger, try to order one that&#8217;s heavy on the lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle, and light on the high calorie stuff like sauces, cheese and bacon.  And again, remove the top half of the bun and you&#8217;re eating healthier already.  </p>
<p>
<p>If you&#8217;re in need of condiments on that burger, opt for mustard or even ketchup instead of mayonnaise or &#8220;special signature sauce&#8221;.  Mayo and special sauce are usually pretty high in calories and those evil &#8220;bad fats&#8221;.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>You might even try ordering off the kiddie menu. </strong> </p>
<p>
<p>Usually fast food places make their meals far too large for one adult anyway, so you might find that the kiddie sizes satisfy you without over-stuffing you with calories.</p>
<p>
<p><em>With respect to side dishes, do your utmost to stay away from the deep fried items like french fries, onion rings and &#8216;chicken nuggets&#8217;.  </em></p>
<p>
<p>Anything deep fried is surely going to be wildly caloric and will only sabotage even the best efforts to keep it healthy or lower in calories.</p>

<p><strong>So, how about a side salad instead? </strong> </p>

<p>But watch out, those creamy dressings are also pretty high in calories and hydrogenated oils.  Try something like vinaigrette instead or even olive oil &#038; balsamic vinegar if it&#8217;s available.</p>
<p>
<p>As a matter of fact, when it comes to salads, you can usually find some kind of &#8216;salad with lean, grilled meat and nuts&#8217; option as an entrée at the fast food restaurants these days.  </p>
<p>
<p><em>So, why not skip the burger, wrap or sandwich completely and have one of these yummy and more nutritious salads instead?</em></p>
<p>
<p><strong>And by all means stay away from drinks like milkshakes and soda pop. </strong> </p>
<p>
<p>They are extremely caloric, and when it comes to soda pop, they are nothing but empty calories and completely devoid of any nutrition whatsoever.  </p>
<p>
<p>If you need a drink, water will always be your best choice, but coffee and tea are also better options than milkshakes or soda pop.  </p>
<p>
<p>Just don&#8217;t add huge amounts of sugar or creamer in the coffee or you&#8217;re just putting back in the calories you just took out by choosing these options.</p>
<p>
<p><em>And if you MUST have that fizzy drink, try club soda for a change.  All the fizz and none of the calories!</em></p>
<p>
<p>So, next time you&#8217;re stuck eating at a fast food restaurant because there just is no other choice (or majority rules with your friends or colleagues), stick with these healthier options so you aren&#8217;t forced to sabotage your health or weight loss goals.<br />

<p>There&#8217;s definitely a &#8216;trick&#8217; to it (if you want to call it that) &#8230; and that&#8217;s to only put foods into your body that will help you realize your goals.  </p>

<p><em>Want to be lean?  Eat healthy.</em>  </p>

<p><em>Want to build sexy muscle?  Eat healthy!</em></p>
<p>
<p><em>Want to have more energy?  Eat healthy!!</em></p>

<p><em>Want to be healthy?  Well… <strong>EAT HEALTHY !!!</strong> (oh, did I say that already?)</em></p>

<p><strong>Remember:  Health begets health.  </strong></p>
<p>
<p>So while you&#8217;re on your mission to be healthy and lean, here&#8217;s some foods that really just are NOT worth eating.  They do nothing to help your cause and will probably just sabotage your efforts.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>Stay away from soft drinks.</strong>  There&#8217;s nothing good about them.  <img alt='Unhealthy Soft Drinks' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/Unhealthy-Soft-Drinks.jpg' align="right" width='108' height='174' style="border-style: none"/></p>
<p>
<p>Sugar, food coloring and carbonated water.  What on earth would make anyone think that combination is good for them?  </p>
<p>
<p>And if you&#8217;re thinking you can make it better by drinking the &#8216;diet&#8217; version instead to keep your calories low, consider this:  it&#8217;s calorie free but it&#8217;s still sweet, therefore it&#8217;s sweetened with artificial sweetener.  </p>
<p>
<p><em>Excuse me but artificial sweeteners are all either made completely from chemicals or are chemically processed to remove the calories.  </em></p>
<p>
<p>Either way, they are the equivalent of drinking poison.  Stay away from soft drinks.  If you absolutely must drink your fizzy treat, then stick to club soda.  Need flavor?  Add a lemon or lime wedge.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>Avoid deep fried foods.  </strong>They&#8217;re almost always chock full of hydrogenated oils, trans fats and all sorts of other indigestible, fattening calories.  </p>
<p>
<p>If you want to have your fries, try sprinkling some heart-healthy coconut oil or olive oil on potatoes, sweet potatoes or yams and bake them in the oven.  This is a far healthier way to get your &#8216;french-fry&#8217; fix.</p>
<p>
<img alt='Bacon is Unhealthy' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/bacon-sandwich.jpg' align="left" width='128' height='96' style="border-style: none"/><strong>Skip the bacon.</strong>  Bacon is full of nitrates and absolutely jammed with salt and unhealthy fat.  </p>
<p>
<p>Want a tasty meat treat?  Try some cooked shrimp.  Or a chicken breast prepared on the grill.  You&#8217;ll get a lot more nutrients for your body and a lot less complaining from your heart.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>Avoid donuts.</strong>  Deep fried white-flour dough covered in white, processed sugar.  Remind me how this could ever be considered a good thing to eat?  </p>
<p>
<p>They contain no nutritional quality and lots and lots of calories and bad fats makes this so called &#8216;food&#8217; very high on the list of foods that just aren&#8217;t worth eating.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>Potato chips of any description are also very high on this list of foods that aren&#8217;t worth eating.  </strong><img alt='Potato Chips are Unhealthy' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/potato-chips-are-unhealthy.gif' align="right" width='171' height='113' style="border-style: none"/></p>
<p>
<p>Why?  Deep fried potatoes with the skins peeled off (which is where most of the nutrition in a potato resides).  They&#8217;re highly caloric and again hold little nutritional quality.  </p>
<p>
<p>So, it&#8217;s best to keep away from this so-called &#8216;food&#8217; too, if you&#8217;re looking to be the healthiest, leanest version of you possible.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>Don&#8217;t eat margarine.</strong>  All margarine happens to be is oils and food colouring with artificial flavoring added to make it resemble butter.  It&#8217;s very high in calories and very devoid of nutrition.  </p>

<p>If you want to spread something on your meals or whole grain bread, make it the real thing:  good ol&#8217; natural butter.  </p>

<p>Sure, it&#8217;s high in calories but at least there&#8217;s some nutrition in butter.  And usually butter doesn&#8217;t contain chemicals or artificial flavors.  If you can find a brand that doesn&#8217;t use artificial coloring, you&#8217;re golden (but your butter won&#8217;t be)!</p>
<p>
<p><strong>Remember what I mentioned at the beginning: <em>Health begets health.</em></strong>  </p>
<p>
<p><em>The healthier you can make the food you eat, the faster your body will reward you with better health and a leaner physique. </em><br />

<p>Hey everyone.  Hope you&#8217;re all doing fantastic!! </p>
<p>As usual I&#8217;m in a race against time (which seems appropriate since I love running so much!!).  However, I had to make time to touch base with you today because one of my very favourite fitness pros <a href="http://gwnn.me/FatBurningKitchenMikeGeary"><strong>Mike Geary</strong></a> (author of <a href="http://www.girlwithnoname.com/2009/08/truth-about-six-pack-abs-busting-out-all-the-secrets/"><strong>The Truth About Six Pack Abs</strong></a>), now has a new book out called <a href="http://gwnn.me/FatBurningKitchenMikeGeary"><strong><em>Fat Burning Kitchen</em></strong></a> he has co-wrote with with <strong>Catherine Ebeling (RN BSN)</strong>, and I&#8217;m here to tell you the book is hands down maybe the BEST nutrition book I&#8217;ve ever read.  </p>
<p>He covers everything from sports drinks and energy bars right down to organic food and whether or not they are necessary (from his perspective) all the time (answer: no).  </p>
<p>He talks about packaged food, pre-made diet meals from places like Weight Watchers and Lean Cuisine, fats and oils (which are good and why, which will HARM YOU and how, plus what to cook with), butter vs. margarine, carbohydrates (should you eat high carb if you work out a lot?  or low carb all the time?  are carbs evil?).  </p>
<p><strong>What about artificial sweeteners?</strong>  Good for fat loss diets?  Or could they actually be harming you and working AGAINST your fat loss goals?</p>
<p>Vegetables, fruits and greens &#8230; meats and seafood &#8230; dairy, nuts, seeds and grains &#8230; <strong>YOU NAME IT, he talks about it in complete detail</strong> including how these foods are produced for the mass-market and how to get the healthiest benefits out of the foods you choose to eat.</p>
<p>It is in-depth and absolutely CHOCK FULL of information you want to know&#8230; NO, actually it&#8217;s <strong><em>information YOU NEED TO KNOW</em></strong>.  </p>
<p><strong>I am not over-exaggerating here.</strong>  If you are interested in being a healthy human being and eating for better health and/or fat loss, then this is an absolute <strong>MUST READ</strong>.</p>
<p>&#8230; listen you guys, even before he wrote <a href="http://gwnn.me/FatBurningKitchenMikeGeary">Fat Burning Kitchen</a>, Mike Geary single-handedly changed the way I personally think about food, what I choose to consume and how I choose to consume it.  This guy IS the &#8230; (<em>insert complimentary naughty word here</em>).</p>
