I went running today.

Since I’d done a hills run last week for the first time in weeks and it HURT, I figured I don’t do that kind of run often enough, so time to get back to doing it regularly.

So, that’s what I did today.

A dreaded hills run (that’s when I go for my usual endurance run but instead of staying on the flat path, I run up and down every hill between the lower path and the upper roadway as I go, it’s about 8km (5mi) with 8 hills in total in a 40 minute run).

There’s one staircase right in the middle of my run, near my ‘turn-around’ point. It’s the 4th trip up a hill or staircase on the path.

Running Up Stairs

I HATE IT. It is my ‘Everest’.

I swear and come close to crying at the top of that thing every… single… time I run it.

And it’s almost IMPOSSIBLE to keep going at a running pace at the top.

My legs are SCREAMING at me, my heart is pumping like it’s going to explode and I can barely breathe.

Continuing at a running pace? Yah, possible, but only barely.

Then I still have another 4km and 4 more hills to get done before I get to the finish.

Many times, during my run today my body BEGGED me to let it stop. It was only my mind that wouldn’t allow it and kept me going.

If you want a strong body, first you need to get a strong MIND.

Without a strong mind, the body will win the battle every time.

The body is addicted to comfort, and it makes a LOT of noise during workouts begging to be let back into its comfort zone.

Don’t let it win. Staying outside of your comfort zone is how you get a beautiful body.

Ignore your body when it begs you to stop. Your body doesn’t know what you want.

Push through.

Listen to your mind.

Your mind KNOWS what you want.

Have a fit, fun and fantastic day.
