I started the day today with nothing but good intentions.

I’m trying to take off a little bit of ‘birthday weight’ I gained thanks to a big cheat meal on my birthday night.

I’m making sure I take extra care with my nutrition, keeping my calories under maintenance, and all that.

I got lots of sleep the night before and got up at a reasonable hour so I had time for a good workout.

And, even though it was raining like crazy, I got my run done (another evil hills run … more on THAT trip through Hell here: It’s All In Your Mind).

Free Comes With A Price Tag

I planned a healthy low-cal dinner for tonight, like every night since my birthday debauchery.

No problem, the erroneous weight is coming off nicely, thank you.

Then I realized I had a function to attend tonight, and a couple of drinks and all the appetizers are going to be FREE!

Suddenly I started rethinking my best intentions.

I mean, FREE FOOD… and FREE DRINKS !! Why WOULDN’T I go for it? I could save myself a couple of bucks on dinner tonight, right?

Then I had a moment of self-awareness.

And I took a seriously close look deep into myself to figure out why I automatically thought that.

Looking into myself helped me completely CHANGE my mindset about something I’ve believed for most of my life:

FREE = GOOD. Always accept free things. ‘Something for Nothing’ is a gift.

It’s a self-sabotaging belief (at least in me) and it needed to be changed. So I changed it.

Things that are ‘free’ actually do come with a PRICE. It might not cost you MONEY, but it will cost you SOMETHING.

Just cuz it’s FREE, does NOT make it good. Nor does it mean you HAVE to accept it.

Now that I’ve come to this realization, I almost feel liberated.

Making this small conscious change in my belief system is going to benefit me in a big way in my journeys through staying fit and healthy, and in my life in general. I know it will.

WRONG !!

Just because you *believe* it does NOT make it TRUE.

Question everything. Including your own beliefs.

Change your belief system, change your body, change your LIFE.

And THAT’s the truth.
